Guavas are known for their seedy center. There are between 100 - 500 edible seeds inside.
Guava trees are not only prized for the fruits that they bear but also for their wood. Guava wood has an aroma that can be described as semi-sweet, which makes it ideal for smoking meat, poultry, and fish. The wood is likewise made into furniture.
Guava produces white flowers that appear individually or arranged in clusters. Flowers contain numerous stamens and tiny pistils.
Fruit of guava is oval, round or pear-shaped. The ripe fruit is covered with yellowish, greenish or maroon skin. Flesh can be white, yellow, pink or red coloured.
Guava starts to produce fruit 2 to 8 years after planting. The fruit has a strong, lemon-like musky odor. The rind can be bitter or sweet, while the flesh has a creamy texture and a sweet-tart taste.
Guavas are perennial plants that usually live around 40 years.
