History of Ceres

Ceres is one of the oldest farming areas in South Africa. The first inhabitants were the San and the Koi, while the first Europeans settled from 1729 onwards. Stock farming was mostly established in the Ceres area and later fruit farming became very popular.

Fruit juice was produced for the first time under the Ceres brand in 1982. At that time Ceres Fruit Juices was part of the Ceres group of companies. The latter was established in 1923.

Since then, our company has grown from strength to strength and has won many prestigious food and beverage awards both locally and internationally.

In 2004 Ceres Fruit Juices (Pty) Ltd became a wholly owned subsidiary of Pioneer Foods Ltd. Operating in the food and beverages business sectors, Pioneer Foods’ core business is the production and distribution of a diverse range of food, beverages, and related products. Focused on products for both human and animal consumption, Pioneer Foods is a significant player in these industries in southern Africa.
